Who are we ??
We are a
Royal Victoria Hospital ICD Support Group
We
are people who have heart problems and as a result have had
a life saving device fitted under the skin, something like a
pacemaker only BETTER. It is called an
Automatic
Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator
or
ICD which is
shorter and easier to remember :-))
Here is a picture of
an AICD

What do
the members of the Live-Wire Club do ??
Well we do
just about everything that normal people would do only slower :-))
but safe in the knowledge that if things go wrong with our hearts
then the ICD will click into gear and let us hopefully live longer.
We also
meet twice a year in a big posh hotel and have a slap up meal.
During the meeting we are able to mingle with lots of important people from
the Royal Hospital.
Like the doctors who insert the ICD and the nurses who help in the theatre
and the technicians who check us out on a regular basis
Short
talks are given by members of the staff on various subjects listed below
A talk by
a member of GUIDENT Staff, "The manufacturer".
The head
Pharmacist talks about the medicines we take and the side effects.
Someone
lets us know the insurance companies who will insure us when we travel.
A fitness
expert puts us through our paces with chair aerobics
